Is This Inflation I Am Feeling?

This is the first time that I pondered on the (one) peso increase in our subdivision's tricycle fare.  For the many times that fares have gone up, it is only now that I have to pause and take a second look at my money, how much change I'd be getting, and how much more (or less) will remain in my daily expense budget.

Flashback 1992, I recall the first ever tricycle fare that we usually pay when we were new to our place: P3.50 per head on an ordinary trip, P9.00 for a special trip. Going back to terminal is even cheaper at P2.50 per head. Now, more than two decades, the special trip cost then is currently the ordinary minimum fare. For individual special trip fare, you will now pay P22.00. P24.00 if you ride beyond 10PM and P30.00 for a special trip beyond midnight.

Things do change and it is during these times that flashbacks are too pleasant to recall. Then you tell yourself that lifestyle is better back then than the current high cost of living.

Dito lang ako...

Nandito ako ngayon sa mall. Nagre-renew ng passport. Maganda ang proyektong ito ng DFA. Hindi na kailangan pang sumadya sa kanilang tanggapan para doon makipagsiksikan ang mga gustong kumuha ng bago o mag-renew ng kanilang passport. Pero dito, marami ring aplikante at mahaba rin ang pila. Yun lang, di mo na kailangang bumiyahe nang malayo para gawin ang bagay na ito kase nga, inilapit na ng DFA ang kanilang serbisyo sa mamamayang Pilipino. Pero sa scenariong ito, napapaisip tuloy ako kung ganito ba talaga karami ang lumalabas ng bansa o masabi lang na may passport ka? Eh ako, ano ba ang dahilan ko bakit ako kumukuha ng passport?

Uhm... Una, posible kaseng may maawa sa akin at magbigay ng pamasahe papunta sa bansang kinaroroonan ngayon ng mommy at ate ko. Di naman masamang mag-ambisyon. Pangalawa, baka makaipon ako ng pamasahe at makalabas kami (with my two girls) ng Pinas... HK disneyland, Japan disneyland, California disneyland, o sa Universal Studio na lang kaya sa Cali? Pwede rin sa SG. Ulit, hindi naman masamang mag-ambisyon. Pangatlo, baka may mahulog na biyaya mula sa langit at alukin ako ng trabaho abroad. Syempre ang unang itatanong ng employer, "do you have a passport?" at agad kong masasagot, "oh yeah! I do have a passport!" uulitin ko, hindi masamang mag-ambisyon. Saka kumbaga sa sundalo, lagi kang handa. Meron ka nang pasaporte bago pa man biglain ng pagkakataon na kakailanganin mong lumabas ng Pilipinas.

Ayan, siguro alam ko na rin ang dahilan ng maraming Pilipinong kumukuha ng passport: hindi kase masamang mag-ambisyon. Tama?

P.S. Naiihi na ako pero hindi ako makaalis sa pila.

"daddy dayhood"

The day i'll become a daddy. It's the 24th of June. Birthday of my brother in law, my neighbor, and a friend. Last night we were admitted here at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. I'm not nervous...yet. Maybe later when i get inside the labor room. I don't know. I just want this whole procedure done. I miss my wifey.

i accompanied wifey to the DR when it was already 3cm. she was brought by a wheel chair and upon entering the DR, i was told by the staff to stay outside the waiting area as our OB Gyne hasn't advised them yet if i can enter the room. i went back to our suite, told my mother in law about it, then sent our OB a text message informing that wifey already was in the DR waiting for her. i went back to the DR to try to see wifey and after three more times of asking how she's doing, i was finally allowed to see her. i dressed up and found a number of doctors and assistants(?) attending to wifey while the baby's heartbeat was being monitored. our doctor finally entered and glad to see her! they were talking casually while waiting for wifey to be ready for labor. i went up to our suite and asked my mother in law to see how things were going in there as we can only be present inside one at a time. so it was her turn and during those time i was told that the baby rotated to her mom's side and it was time to transfer them to the OR and perform CS. i rushed to the DR and this time my mother in law and i were allowed to be in the OR at the same time. the doctor, yes the doctor, was always reminding us to be ready with our camera to capture every moment of this one-time happening. i documented everything that need to be captured and when the baby was pulled out from her mom's tummy, everyone in the OR were smiling and happy. and now, the baby, Aya Camille (Jr.) says, "hello, world!"
