Thank you, PEx!

Tomorrow, April 15, 2023, will be the last day ONLINE of the best forum website in the early 2000s--- PinoyExchange.com. It will go offline after more than two decades. Here's their announcement via their official Facebook page:

PEx has been THE online community board authority in the early 2000's. Due to its heavy traffic 24/7, I am guessing that it required higher bandwidth to accommodate its growing membership who have been discussing online 24/7... yes, 24/7 since PEx also has thousands of members based overseas (eg. USA, and the rest of the world). Pinoys are also known to be online addicts. So PEx never rested and remained super active during its peak years. My PEx milestones would include the following: 1) consistent Wireless Journal (WJ--- the first before twitter came) post leader (with CiGaWeTte); 2) owned personal threads: one made by mauve_2002 and the other shared with completenonsens; 3) owned a PExPlus Private Journal (the earlier version of a blog); 4) I became a forum moderator for Buhay Pinoy. Personally, I got to be introduced to PExers who eventually turned real-life friends. Up to date, we remain friends beyond cyberspace. And this is one thing I really thank PEx for. Plus I got to be friends with those prominent moderators & admin (Ada, Leigh, uptowngirl, to name a few). Who could have imagined the online life before the social media and tiktok era? Thanks to PinoyExchange.com, we had those intellectual and not-so-intellectual online exchange of ideas on topics as heavy as politics & religion, to as light as Buhay Pinoy and Small Talks. And I can claim, IMO, that PEx was the ONLY authority when we speak about online community forum... even miles ahead of the then Peyups.com.
PExers turned real-life friends: mauve_2002, mckoolit,
HeartBreaker200, BabyFATS, and BadAssGoddess

Thank you, PEx.

9 Truths, 1 Lie

In an attempt to keep this blog active once again, I am posting (and leading readers) to this blog my answer to the Facebook post, 10 Jobs.  Here's my version of  the post, and following is my detailed response to each choices:

List 10 jobs. 9 should be jobs you've already done, and one should be a lie.
Which one has not been my legit bread and butter?

1. Hosting - `did hosting for wedding, church programs, but not considered as a job and definitely didn't earn anything from it. So this is the odd one out among the 10 jobs listed.
2. Newspaper delivery - done this to earn an income when I was in Mississauga. One of the most tiring jobs I experienced, we needed to sort everything first and do flier inserts before dispatching them to the houses assigned to us--- even on heavy snowfall!

"katotohanan... magpapalaya sa bayan!"
3. New Accounts Clerk - my 3rd job after college. One of the busiest jobs ever especially when BIR payment deadline comes. I take my lunch break at 5PM!
4. Factory Worker - I was on call for this job, located in Toronto... the job I felt I was very independent at that time. Needed to work from late afternoon to midnight, and catch the last trip of the bus on my way home. Experienced calling an 8PM meal - "lunch". Saw different status in life, mixed nationalities working together. For this particular work experience? No regrets.
5. Sales Coordinator - the job I had before going back to my field of study. Stayed for almost 6 years, carrying the thought that I was doing my job for a good cause: curb the country's population.
6. Warehouse picker/packer - who would have thought? But being with one of my best buddies, working inside the warehouse has been a very pleasant experience. I even learned how to drive a picker machine! Bonus on the job is our client, and a very generous "boss."
7. Real Estate Agent - also in Mississauga, I spent a couple of weeks manning an open house. Earned good cash for a 4-hour shift daily.
8. Radio Reporter - I am honored, until today, to have been trusted to cover the palace for our radio station. My first job after college, one of the many tasks I did to earn a living. Another one is number---
9. News Reader - I read news items for radio for over a year. I was even given a segment for the early news program, where I produced environment-related news and features to air daily.
10. News Producer - ...and writer. My job in GMA News for one full year. Some memorable news stories back then: Japan tsunami (all line-ups erased for this super breaking news), Ping Lacson going out in public (remember the suspense between 24 Oras and TV Patrol on who will be able to interview him first after their respective OBBs), Libya unrest, crocodile Lolong captivity, among others. It was a very good one year experience for me.

Congratulations, Graduates & Parents!

A lot of things have been happening lately and I just can't seem to find the "spark" to write about them.  I'm planning on something that will rekindle my passion in writing.  This blog turned 11 this month and looking at the diminishing number of contents looks awful... well, at least for me who is a self-proclaimed writer.  Yes, writing has been my passion since childhood years.  I write poems, stories, love letters... oh well.  I think I need to put my writing habit back on track and take it to the next level. ;)

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the internet in the Philippines.  20 years ago (1994), I'm not sure if I already began surfing into the worldwide web.  I think it was only after year 2000 that I had my first ever email address... edsamail, anyone?  Then having a dial-up connection at home, I started getting an email address in excite.com.  First online leisure I became a member of was (of course) in PinoyExchange.com (PEx), the largest online Filipino community then and up to date ;)  My original username there was created in 2001 and up to now, it is still active. A couple of years after, I formally entered the world of blogging. It's just amusing to note that PEx has offered "blogging" (PEx Plus Private) even before blogs sprung out like mushrooms in the worldwide web.  Also, PEx can take the credit of being the first to introduce "micro-blogging" in Manila through PEx's Wireless Journal... the one I'm considering as the original twitter.  It was the peak of my mobile spending by sending Wireless Journal updates by texting.  I am even more interested in updating my Wireless Journal (WJ) account than my current twitter account.  Looking back at my WJ posts, I only have good memories even if I posted a good number of rants... which mostly tells updates about food and work rants. hahaha!

Since 20 years ago, internet in Manila has gone a long way.  Don't you all wish that people today still value personal connection than just virtual engagement?

Speaking of social networking sites, my facebook timeline is loaded with graduation photos.  That's with a matching "toga" outfit.  Some include their parents in the photo, some with classmates and fellow graduates, while most are selfies.

I'd like to extend my congratulations to all the graduates, primary school, secondary school, and college as well.  But most of all, to the hardworking parents who gave everything for their kids' education.  That's a treasure that nobody can take away from your kids now. ;)

To all the primary school grads, congrats, it's a step up to more learnings.  To all secondary school grads, congratulations, you now take your first step to your chosen career path... good luck!  To the college graduates, congratulations and welcome to the world of the unemployed! hahaha, kidding! :D

What's your coffee personality?

it's been a long time since i answered these online quizzes. browsing on some results of a keyword (work-related) i entered in google, i ended up reading a forum for females, and found this quiz: What's your coffee personality?. Feeling that it's a slow Saturday workday anyway, i took the quiz and answered this set of multiple choice questions:

1 .) You wake up on a weekend morning. What's the first thought that pops into your head?
- You tell yourself that it's time to get up, but that you don't have to rush.
- It's time to put on your running shoes and hit the road or trail!
- You think about your current hobbies and interests. Having free time means you can do the things you love.
- You start planning how your schedule, which will involve doing your errands and meeting up with friends.

2 .) What is your typical breakfast like?
- A big meal with rice because breakfast is the most important meal of the day
- A sandwich because it's something easy to eat on the road
- Just a pack of crackers is enough
- It depends on what you and your colleagues are craving for. You like having breakfast together before the workday begins!

3 .) Where do you usually get your coffee?
- You make it at home and pack it in your thermos.
- A coffee shop that’s in between your house and the office
- That small coffee shop where they may not have many fancy machines, but have a lot of ambiance
- Just the office pantry (plus, it's a convenient way to get a glimpse of your office crush)

4 .) You manage to get to work with time to spare. How do you spend the extra half hour?
- Probably browsing the news or chat with your officemates
- Checking your e-mail and reviewing your agenda of things to do, ordering them according to priority
- You fix yourself up. The commute to work is a killer, and you want to present a professional image to the world
- Having breakfast with your workmates

5 .) How do you manage work-related stress?
- You take yoga classes after work a few times a week.
- You try to spend at least a weekend every month or two hiking and camping.
- You make the time to indulge in your hobbies.
- You go out for an after-hours drink with officemates.

6 .) What kind of music perks you up?
- Old school rock music
- Techno or trance
- Pop hits from the '80s and '90s
- The latest radio hits

7 .) On a typical work day, how many cups of coffee do you consume?
- Maybe two or three cups. Any more, and you'll be bouncing off the walls!
- Probably four or so. You like the buzz, and it helps you work.
- One, maybe two. A little caffeine is enough to get you through the day.
- You often lose track. You like leaving your cubicle every now and then to pour yourself a cup because it allows you to stretch your legs.

8 .) Do you order different types of coffee drinks for different occasions?
- Yes. When you're with friends, you tend to pick beverages you might not have tried before.
- Nope. You get your usual--it's tried and true, and it means you don't have to take so long to order.
- Yes. You're always on the lookout for something new.
- No, you don't change your order because of different occasions, but you do change it depending on your mood.

9 .) What do you do to chill out and relax?
- You like quiet days at home with a book or movie; you save your energy for nights out with friends.
- The gym--you have a number of friends who go there, plus working out gives you endorphins, which make you happy.
- The spa for a massage--there's nothing like having someone work the kinks and knots out of your muscles.
- The mall with friends--a little retail therapy goes a long way, and even if you can't buy, it's fun to try!

10 .) At a coffee shop, how long does it take for you to order your coffee?
- Less than a minute because you tend to have an order in mind before you line up, though you do listen to the barista's suggestions.
- As long as it takes for you to say “coffee.” You pretty much rattle off your order, pay, and wait.
- Not long, but sometimes you take your time because it's so hard to choose something you’ve never tried before--especially if the cafe has launched new drinks.
- Not long at all; the barista already knows you by name, and all you have to do is confirm that you're having your usual order.

and, here's my quiz result:

You're a LATTE!

You’re light and bubbly, and you never let anything get in your way. You are very passionate about your hobbies, and while this gives you a lot of satisfaction, it can sometimes get in the way of your work life. You can be a bit of a clock-watcher at work, but you do finish your tasks. It’s just that you need to get out of the office to do what you want to do. It's not that you hate your job; it's more that, while you enjoy your work, you prefer to think of it as a way for you to fund the endeavors you're really passionate about.

You like to keep things light, so a latte is perfect for you! Shortened from caffe latte, Italian for “coffee and milk,” a latte can be as simple or as jazzed up as you like it. It’s simply coffee and milk--more milk than a cappuccino or a macchiato--but it’s far from boring. Whereas other mixed coffees have the coffee as the base, this one has the milk as the base, with the coffee being poured on top. One thing to note is that many shops serve their lattes with artistic renditions of hearts, petals and other simple designs.

if you wanna try the quiz, you may answer the questions here: What's your coffee personality?. it should be nice answering them while sipping your favorite cup of coffee, right? :D

7

it's already past halfway of the year (and this month is already past halfway, too.) haven't been able to update much due to unknown reasons. haha. well, perhaps my writing enthusiasm has lessen. it's ironic because i write for a living.

july has always been a busy month for me, in time for our church's anniversary. and we'll be more excited for the next three years when the church will celebrate it's centennial anniversary. i've heard about the church's BIG projects that are being prepared in time for the year 2014--- when it reaches its 100th year. i'm excited to witness that graceful day and i'm sure all the brethren are, too. :D

on another note, this month offers the FINAL installment of the harry potter series and all wizard fans are excited. it has been a decade when the first of its installment was shown on the big screen and who would have thought that it has been that long? i'm not a die hard fan of harry potter (especially the book) but i admit i got hooked into watching its film series unlike any other series such as star wars or those dc comics stories turned into movies (x-men?) but wifey & i must wait after two weeks to watch this finale.

my daughter got sick (again) and never have i panicked been worried before like this recent sickness. first, it was her first time to get a series of cbc to check on her dropping platelet. we first suspected (but never hoped) it was dengue. for four days her fever won't leave her and she's beginning to lose weight already for not having the normal appetite when chow time comes. we also had her urinalysis and it was cleared. thank God it's not that U.T.I. again that brought her twice to the hospital. we decided to have her confined (as suggested by her pediatrician) and my 2nd worry... i don't have our health card anymore! so just imagine where i'd be pulling those money to cover the hospital & medication expenses when our credit card has already been maxed out. and i haven't been voluntarily contributing to Philhealth after i resigned from the previous company. for a while i felt like i'm Atlas--- "pasan ko ang daigdig." good thing it wasn't dengue. she had rashes all over body but it wasn't actually measles. final diagnosis: viral infection. after two nights at the hospital, we were set free. my little girl's appetite got back to normal. and she craved for apples and grapes everyday. yaiks!

i'd like to thank our good blogger friend, Mr. Blogger Congeniality himself--- gasolinedude for inviting us over for a KTV lunch date. yeah. we were supposed to sing our hearts out but Redbox was fully booked, and all other KTVs in Timog area were still closed. and since we can't stay long due to other "appointments", we just had our lunch at Little Asia. the time was short but it was worthwhile. he gave freebies for the wifeys and i discovered that he is hesitant to carry little kids. :P thanks, Alex! looking forward to your next homecoming... and i hope you've made your most important decision when that time comes. you know my personal opinion on that, buddy! :)

another good friend had his homecoming, this time from the kingdom of saudi arabia. he invited us for an eat-all-you-can lunch at DADS, and we sure stuffed our tummy with food! i've learned that edmark is not returning to saudi but instead, he's got a new job offer in Singapore. he's blessed! he's kind-hearted, that's why. he never fails to get in touch with his friends and even thoughtful enough to give everyone their pasalubong. edmark was supposed to stay here in Manila for a month vacation but his employer in SG needs him in two weeks time, so he has to cut short his Manila stay. but the advantage of working in SG is that he's nearer from Manila and vacationing shouldn't be an issue whenever he wants. good luck on your career's new chapter, bro! ;)

on a completely different note, i've activated mg Google+ profile. will this put an end to FB just like what FB did to Friendster? i've read somewhere that Google+ is more of a threat to twitter than FB. we'll see...

Paalam, Friendster

paalam, Friendster.

keeping me busy

i don't detail much the things that keep me busy just like i used to. perhaps it's a part of the change that happens whether we like it or not. as i've mentioned previously, your 'world' shall be different when you get married and have kid/s. the usual hobbies that you used to do will have to be put aside to give way to your new responsibilities. it amazes me though that i still blog. though i've entertained the thought of giving-up blogging a few times, i'm still here documenting my so-called "life." and perhaps one friend thought that i needed to hold on to blogging so he gifted me a year of website hosting where i can have exclusivity in my url address, hence, the birth of this wordpress page. i used to blog in the FREE blog-hosting site and having an exclusive url address is something, well, upgraded. i still am a neophyte in terms of html use so i tweak my blog designs only through the templates available in the hosting site. some think that i'm already an "institution" to this but no, i remain as the simple blogger that i am. i don't even give in to putting ads in my webpage even if i think it can help me (even a little) in covering up some of my monthly expenses.

anyway, i'm busy with my family, work, church duties and online, i frequent PEx where i moderate a couple of forums. the latter i mentioned is voluntary but it gives me something in return--- perhaps the additional credential, communication enhancement, matured judgement, and maybe, additional friends. PEx has become the largest Filipino Online Community since its debut in 1999 and i never expected that i'd be one of the moderators of this community. I think it should be more fun if my PEx friends are still active when I'm already taking this responsibility. There are still a few active old members but those who i'm really close with and develop real-life friendship are already living their own real-world lives.

i'm still positive about getting a new career this year. there are a good number of reasons why i feel this way towards the present job and i think it's high time for me to take a step forward and move on to better "responsibilities".

weekends have always been a time for family (and church day, too). two days seem insufficient to do the many activities i need to do with my very own family (so i can't imagine working on a Saturday again). i've been spending my time working most of the week and when i get home after work, i feel tired & sleepy. must be the age, haha! i really don't take vitamins ever since (if i'm given the choice)... which reminds me, mom has sent me a bottle of vitamins to consume. yaiks. anyway, i'm thinking of spending more time with my wifey & little girl to some places this year, if the funds allow :P looking forward to have their newly-acquired passports to have stamps, yay! i just don't know when. but i'm projecting it by the 3rd quarter of this year. i hope the airlines have big, big discounts on air fare by that time :D

holy supper is nearing. it's that season when temptation is more evident. as for my brethren in faith, let's all be vigilant.

btw, i'm surprisingly loving the weather in Manila--- it's cold. I love sunny weather but having this cold breeze is also like-able! I just hate it when it rains.

Monday, January 17, 2011

oh no, it's monday!

it's been almost a week since i last blogged.. no. the correct thing to say is it's been almost a week since i last updated this page. i do blog daily (well, almost) but just for my 365 days project which link is to be publicized only on the 4th quarter of this year (or perhaps by private request). It's not that "professional". really. i just wanted to bring back my old hobby of point-and-shoot since i first loved it in college. it's like... more than a decade since i frequently did that. and besides, i have no "expensive gadgets" to match with the mushrooming online photography hobbyists. but nonetheless, i'm having my own project. our college video editor noted once, and it has since marked in my mind, that i have an "eye" for the camera. i used to be our cameraman on video school projects and my framing was praised even by our college video production mentor.

anyway, i didn't notice the week that passed, i was preoccupied with some schedules (which i posted here in my blog previously) and we were able to do everything as stated. the most likeable for me was my bonding with my daughter last Saturday night as we waited for her mom to finish her duties in church. we just went to the mall, i got her 2 packs of diapers, and she just loved rounding the baby section of the department store. before we left, i bought an ionizer (the cheapest available) from a car accessory shop, then got my wifey her KFC meal. the following day was another family day blast. we had to bring my mom's padala to her sister in fairview so off we drove to Aunt Joy's place where wifey, our little daughter & i enjoyed singing until dinner was served! my uncle's videoke has the bestest sound that even i myself sounded like a professional singer, haha (dream on!) and the best thing in his playlist, he has this Go On Girl by Ne-yo song! yeah! i felt like an RnB king last night. hahaha.. my daughter wouldn't want to let go of the microphone too. :P i took some photos of my aunts & uncle to send them to my mom thru email.

and now its Monday again. time to start the week right, and look forward to better things to come. oh, did i mention, 2011 positivity? ;)

Returning Back To "Home"

Since the internet has boomed in Manila in the mid to the late-90's, I think I have mentioned here in my blog already that the website that molded me as an addict internet user is PinoyExchange dot com (PEx). This online community has contributed a lot in my "formative" years as a newbie internet user. Through PEx, I've also come to meet fellow PExers then eventually made real-life friends with them. The online community offers a variety of subject matter that members can discuss with. The thing with online forums, you learn how to communicate with others. You become aware of issues around the community. You are able to share your two cents worth of thoughts. you learn to listen (or read & comprehend) then you also learn to express.

Last night, an admin of PinoyExchange sent me an SMS and told me to check my email. Also, she told me that i already have a "welcome thread" (as new moderator) in the forums i will be moderating. yep. i've become a moderator! i honestly don't know how i'd feel. most of my PEx buddies are already inactive members. way back some 9 years+ ago, we were all VERY ACTIVE in posting in PEx and of course, change happens. most things (if not everything) are different now. but yeah, i feel honored. while moderating the forum is voluntary (read: NO PAY), i believe i will learn from it. it's a tool for self-development while you extend your service to the betterment of the online community. to those who read this blog post who were, and are, active / inactive PEx member / reader / lurker / stalker, i encourage you to rekindle your love for PEx and there let's continue to "Speak Our Mind". ;)

Test For Dementia

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important that we keep mentally alert The saying; "If you don't use it, you will lose it" also applies to the brain, so... Below is a very private way to gauge your loss or non-loss of intelligence.

So, take the following test presented here and determine if you are losing it or are still "with it." The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you have made your answer. (To see the correct answer, highlight the lines after the word "Answer".)

OK, relax, clear your mind and... begin.

WELL MAYBE NOT THAT CLEAR!

1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: "bread." If you said "toast," then give up now and go do something else. Try not to hurt yourself. If you said, "bread," go to Question 2.

2. Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk."

What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said "milk," please do not attempt the next question. Your brain is obviously over stressed and may even overheat. It may be that you need to content yourself with reading something more appropriate such as Children's World. If you said "water" then proceed to question 3.

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said "green bricks," what the devil are you still doing here reading these questions?????

If you said "glass," then! go on to Question 4.

4. It's twenty years ago, and a plane is flying at 20,000 feet over Germany (If you will recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East Germany.) Anyway, during the flight, TWO of the engines fail. The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the engine fails before he has time and the plane fatally crashes smack in the middle of "no man's land" between East Germany and West Germany. Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany or West Germany or in "no man's land"?

Answer: You don't, of course, bury survivors. If you said ANYTHING else, you are a real dunce and you must NEVER try to rescue anyone from a plane crash. Your efforts would not be appreciated. If you said, "Don't bury the survivors", then proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get off the bus and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven. What was the name of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud! Don't you remember your own name? It was YOU!!!!!!

#sentisabado

4th of 10 Truths, 5 Lies Revealed

more than a couple of months ago, i posted the 4th of my 10 Truths, 5 Lies series. After getting 5 feedback (from loyal readers... thanks guys!), here's now the revelation on which are the 10 Truths and which are the 5 Lie statements:

1. my first time to vote in a student council election was when i was in grade 5 and i didn’t know how to vote back then. True.

2. i carried along a sleeping mat (banig) from home to school, walking in my boy scout uniform in preparation for our camping. True.

3. the first ever film i saw in school with my primary school classmates was The Neverending Story. Lie. It was "The Love Bug" featuring the cute beetle car, Herbie.

4. we had two film showings in school in my entire secondary school years: The Man Who Saw Tomorrow (featuring the predictions of Nostradamus), and, The Miracle Of Life (where reproductive system was explained, the meeting of the sperm and egg cell to form a “life” inside the woman’s womb and actual birthing was shown) True.

5. the first ever porn film that i have watched was a Filipino-titled film, “Kiri” featuring sexy star Lampel Cojuangco (this must be her screen name) when i was in grade three. True. It was accidental, though since one channel of our TV downstairs was then 'hooked-up' with our TV from my parents bedroom. woot! woot! (kailangan nagpapaliwanag sa number na ito, haha!)

6. my aunt brought me and my cousin, Bernie, to a film producer when we were kids to audition as child stars for the horror series REGAL SHOCKER. Lie. Not in Regal Shocker but in Pinoy Thriller. Trivia: we did not push through with the audition for some reasons i can hardly remember.

7. my cousin, Bernie, was with me in the clinic when i got circumcised. True.

8. in high school i got sick. when i was brought to the clinic, i was diagnosed with cholera. Lie. it was hepatitis A.

9. my cousins and i used to wake up at dawn (no sun yet) and walk to the nearest basketball court to play ball using a volleyball. True. how poor of us :(

10. among the four physical education courses i took at UST, namely, gymnastics, softball, volleyball, and handball, my favorite was softball since i was commended by our professor that given the right training on that sport, i could be a great player at it. True. It was also the most exciting PE course i took from the said university, look at the list again.

11. first time i tried jetskiing was during our company outing in 2007 and everyone’s eyes were on me. True.

12. in 2008 during our company outing, we had swimming contest and our group won using the backstroke style. Lie. we just played water basketball and it was fun because we ganged up on one of our colleagues whenever he had the ball.

13. i swim better doing the breast stroke than doing butterfly stroke. Lie. one of my frustrations is that i do not know how to swim like those olympic swimmers. :(

14. i have literally tasted the snow and it’s salty. True.

15. the very first time i bought a condom out of curiosity was in a seven eleven store in Hongkong. True.

truth, lie & obsession

this is probablly the craziest news i've heard so far this year: a couple got obsessed "nurturing" their virtual baby more than their real-life baby (of three months). their real baby died of starvation. about their virtual baby? i don't know. perhaps it's healthier and more happy now. full text of this weird story can be read here.

10 (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 6 (f) 1

Now add up the total number of points.

OVER 60 POINT: Others see you as someone they should 'handle with care'.. You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality, a natural leader, who's quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once, someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate....

41 ! TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting, someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding, someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & ; practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expects the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you, realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions and who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist. Some people think you're boring. Only those who know you well, know that you aren't.

"4 Things" elaborated

LOL. this is hooked from Facebook notes to lighten things up. you see, people (Filipinos) will be going to Ayala, Makati, and oter assembly points in the archepelago today to show support against the CONstituent ASSembly and even if i wish to participate, i have work in QC. :(

uhmm... for those who want to do practice target (ie. dart, gun, bow & arrow...) you may use the image at right of THIS POST. just don't blame me if your PC monitors/LCDs get destroyed. :p

ok, let's start these 4 things...

- - - - - - - - - - - -

A) FOUR JOBS I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE:

1. Beat Reporter for Radio - best job i've had in my life in terms of practice, experience and job function. being a media practitioner gives me a feeling i've never felt in my years of working in the customer service field.

2. New Accounts Clerk - while the above-mentioned job was my best in terms of practice, this one's my best in terms of compensation. while i started with the basic (read: LOW) salary, benefits compensate everything. it's when i worked in a bank that i've learned how to put personal money in a savings account. i started to be aware of the so-called "investment" for the future, whenever that future is.

3. Sales Coordinator - my current job function, having a good number of years of experience communicating with people, being a sales coordinator isn't really that tough a job anymore. the position lets me decide on things that need immediate trouble shooting, and somehow, people here consult me on matters that can't be decided right away. makes me feel so senior. bleh.

4. Bodegero - this is an undisclosed (now no more) job experience i once had.

B) FOUR JOBS I WANT IN MY LIFE:

1. Morning TV Show Host - i am a morning person. i love doing thins in the morning rather than in the afternoon or at night especially if it's work-related. even if prime time TV slots are in the evening, i don't care who my audience will be on a morning show. it may just let me feel good working as a morning TV show host and spice up the start of day for many people.

2. Environment Secretary - my love for the environment, more so, my pity for it's depreciation makes me want to unseat whoever isn't doing good in the department of environment. some people from the authorities are simply too numb to feel the cries of our natural resources which currently are continuously being abused.

3. Provincial Governor - since i don't have any political experience, i'd like to start my political career as a provincial governor. LOL. well, i'll start making my province great again then perhaps who knows? i might be given a chance to make this nation great... again. (ambisyoso, hahaha!)

4. TV Game Show Host - i'd like this to be my "sideline". leisure source of income in other words. dreaming of this job is simply all about fame. and maybe, i'll help the worthy contestants win in the games. it will change their lives forever! hahaha... thing is, do hosts have a control over the winnings of each game shows? or it's all on the show producers?

C) FOUR MOVIES I WOULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AND OVER:

1. Independence Day - aliens:invasion, human:unity. nuff said.

2. Love Actually - i'm amused with how this film was produced. the love stories of people from different walks of life are compressed in this one great film. romantic fools just have to *sigh* when the screen cuts from one scene to another. no time to fall asleep when watching this film.

3. I Am Sam - a tear-jerker film about father and daughter. for those who haven't watched this film yet starring Sean Penn, get a dvd copy and garb your popcorns and drinks in your entertainment room. and yeah, bring something to wipe your tears dry too. :p

4. Twister - amazing. if everything's a reality on this film, i can just say, "wow"

D) FOUR PLACES WHERE I HAVE LIVED:

1. Cainta, Rizal - the flood-basin of Antipolo City

2. Kamuning, Quezon City - this is my childhood home. lots of childhood memories here.

3. Minalin, Pampanga - very laid back place. people not included. but yeah, some people here still remain primitive when it comes to lifestyle.

4. Bacolod City, Negros Occidental - living here is just like a dream. one time it came, the next day it has gone. nice grade school memories though. i still keep a few friends from my grade school classes. (hi, Ron & Roger)

E) FOUR TV SHOWS I LOVE TO WATCH:

1. no particular tv shows
2.
3.
4.
- and no elaboration needed. :p

F) FOUR THINGS I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT (OTHER THAN THE BASICS):

1. ATM card - who could live without it? cash people or credit people?

2. Internet Access - technology. what have you made me? LOL

3. boxers - i can live without my briefs but not without my boxers. BOXERS RULE!!!

4. choir clearbook - aside from my family, this is my life! For keeps!

G) 4 WEBSITES I VISIT DAILY:

1. Facebook.com - coz i'm amused getting in touch with people i thought were gone forever. :p

2. Yahoo! Mail / Gmail - simple. they're my online mail contacts.

3. plurk / twitter - one of my favorite online past time: microblog!

4. myBrute - i'm not a violent person. just try this by clicking here. ;)

H) FOUR OF MY FAVORITE FOODS:

1. pork sinigang (kelangan pa bang i-memorize yan?) - bisyo na 'toooooo!!!

2. guapple - my favorite source of vitamin C... and cultured worms (if i chose those VERY ripe ones) :p

3. oishi caramel popcorn - simply because Jack N Jill has stopped producing Nuts N Pops :(

4. Nagaraya Adobo Cracker Nuts - i go nuts with the crunch. good thing my eyes don't swell out. LOL

I) FOUR PLACES I WOULD RATHER BE RIGHT NOW:

1. in bed / on the couch slacking - oohhh... i love, i love, i love...

2. airport going abroad - yeah, i'd rather be somewhere else. and the excitement of being in the airport's departure area makes me... excited! LOL

3. in a Spa having a nice massage - yeah.... pampering your body is priceless.

4. vacationing somewhere with wifey & our firstborn - looking forward to this. ;)

J) FOUR OF MY FAVORITE PERFUMES:

1. Jovan NRG Ginseng - NOT the MUSK. people always make mistake here. you see, my favorite scent is rare. if any of you finds this, let me know where. it's silver-capped. and yeah it smells like Jon :D

2. Citrous-scented Cologne - this has been my preferred since ever since i learned how to put on cologne in my body.

3. XXL - first had this as a gift from my brother-in-law, from Kuwait when he still works there. it has a series of brands: X, XXX, XL... and i don't know how many more.

4. French Connection UK - love the mild scent. its label is actually FCUK on the bottle and comes with two distinction: for men and for women. first encounter with this perfume was year 2004 and i had the chance of owning two bottles after a few years since then.

K) FOUR OF MY FAVORITE MUSICALS:

1. Miss Saigon (with the original cast)
2. Mamma Mia!
3. Sound Of Music (counted ba ito?)
4. Les Miserables
- well, musicals remind me of my college years. not really fond of them but seeing a musical once in a while is an appreciated pleasure.

L) FOUR FRIENDS WHO I THINK WILL TAKE THIS QUIZ:

1. Mariel (hehe)
2. Roma
3. Jerick
4. Lyn :p
- uhmmmm... hehehe

M) FOUR FAMOUS PEOPLE I WOULD LOVE TO MEET - DEAD OR ALIVE :

1. FYM - he may be not famous to ALL people but for those who have been part of his commissioning, he's someone to look up to in terms of faith, leadership and dedication.

2. FEM - the guy most Filipinos hate but likewise many Filipinos love. He brought my country to its highest point in history, gained respect from the international community, made my country as one of the greatest countries in Asia. too bad, some things just have to destroy him and bury his accomplishments.

3. JPR - the brilliant man in the country's history. i admire him for making known to other nationalities that Filipinos can be brilliant and intelligent contrary to what others regard our ethnicity.

4. Happy Slip (Christine Gambito) LOL :P - again, technology, what have you done to me? hehe... Christine is one of the most popular video blogger in our time today. She's a Youtube star, a video blogger celebrity and yes, she's Filipina! *wink*

N) FOUR THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY:

1. sweldo - sinong may ayaw nito?!

2. lower cost of diesel - sinong malulungkot kapag nangyari ito?!

3. when clock strikes 6PM every Mondays to Fridays - sino sa opis namain ang tututol dito?!

4. Saturday morning - pagkat ito ang araw ko para sa pamilya ko. :)

...yay! tapos na po! ;)

online accounts delight!

This era can indeed be considered as the computer age when children's past time which once were the likes of tumbang preso and syato are replaced with online gaming such as CounterStrike and the popular Defense of the Ancients, or simply labeled as DOTA. Even kids in the nursery level who get lucky to study in some private schools are being introduced to the concept of computers with some computer activities that aid their early education.

Pinoys aren't left behind when it comes to "online activities". TRIVIA: who gave Friendster the highest traffic...? none other than the Pinoys! I myself used to have a Friendster account and it was good while it lasted.

the social networking site has gained popularity among its users and personally, i used it to locate my long lost classmates in high school. it was just too amazing to find classmates in grade school, too! Friendster reunited people across the globe. A feat that paved way to the existence of several other social networking sites.

Facebook now seems to be the favorite among online social networkers. Most people i know who stopped updating their Friendster profiles have switched to Facebook which, for new users, will stun you with it's very numerous applications. One who is determined to pace up with Facebookers must be patient enough to get through all the registration process (which all online accounts require) and study it's how-to's. slowly but surely, one will enjoy Facebooking.

i have switched from Friendster to Facebook. where people are, then social networking becomes more useful. agree?

Of course there is blogging. this is probably my longest online hobby, way back year 2002 when my favorite online message board, PinoyExchange dot com, offered their blog-like service labeled as PExPlus Private. I managed to scribble a good number of entries until its services expired and then i was introduced to blogger dot com, where my first ever official blog page was published.

still up and running for over six years now, this blog has been my life stories' haven. this is also where i learned some basics of html and where i reached out to my friends through writing. i know i used to have a lot of passion in writing and maybe it's what's keeping this blog alive. i have tried to organize my blog postings and came up with a couple more blogs. another one hosted by blogger where i narrated and recorded my "spiritual life", and the other hosted by Xanga dot com.

(a glimpse of my "spiritual blog" which was retained private, and was shared only to a few people)

the latter host was discovered by yours truly only in year 2003 when i went back to the east coast... most people there (majority were teenagers) were using xanga, which offers a more user-friendly interface when updating blogs. and since i don't want the same stuffs published on two different web pages, i decided to let my xanga account live by posting some nice thoughts and messages being sent to me either in my email or mobile phone inbox. hence its sub-title, "egg and corn soup for the soul."

as the popularity of blogging spread throughout the world, some geniuses were able to come up with the idea of micro-blogging. as of this writing, we have one popular micro-blogging all over the world and this is Twitter. oopss... i may stand corrected because here in Manila, it seems that Plurk overtook Twitter in terms of popularity. I have an account for each micro-blogging sites:

even if these two sites are of similar type, i see to it that i publish different updates at all time. for one, i don't see any relevance of maintaining two different accounts with the same contents EVERY UPDATE. maybe it is also the reason why i don't link blog updates to other (same) web service, say, blog post from blogger to be linked to a multiply blog. speaking of Multiply dot com, i also maintain an account there, primarily to serve as my online photo album:

Interestingly, i believe i have different "audience" for each account that i own. that somehow distinguishes my posts for each account. whenever i post to a certain account, i know who my target "audience" are. each account represents a different character. when updates have ceased, it might not be the end of everything... just the online life.

(above-image is my i dot ph blog account--- one of my supposedly most loved domain name but due to lack of "content" or subject, it has frozen to date.)

2 top 5's childhood games

this time, i'm not talking about the kid games that we used to play way back then, but the first "video games" that became a craze by the year 80's and early 90's: Game & Watch & Family Computer. While these games were not as 3D (or even 4D) and more lively as today's Counter Strike or DOTA, these early games surely became popular not only for kids of the 80's but to the adults as well. Tamagotchi and brick games sprouted all over after all these...

Family Computer Games (i owned and loved to play):

5) For boxing fans and all those who dreamed of "punching it out" against Iron Mike Tyson, this game is a challenge. Even before you memorize the techniques in going against a number of contenders, Punch Out will eat your playing time for a few days. Then you can save those codes to right away face the next opponent the next time you insert the game cartridge. Some characters in this first punch out nintendo game are Don Flamenco, Glass Joe, Bald Bull, Great Tiger, King Hippo, Soda Popinski, Von Kaiser, Mr. Dream, Mr. Sandman, Great Tiger, Piston Honda, Macho Man and of course, Mike Tyson.

4) One of the first video basketball games released during those times, Double Dribble enables you to play a team either against the computer or against a second player. This game features slam dunk close ups and the grand "Star Spangled Banner" every start of the game. My cousins and i used to take turns competing against each other thru this video game and we even kept win-loss records so dead-time afternoons are mostly alive for us, the TV, and the family computer.

3) This game may not be popular to all but Sky Destroyer never failed to stir up my excitement whenever i play it. Its mission is to destroy its enemies in the sky, the sea and lastly, the island-based. the main player riding a fighter plane is ganged up by different types of war crafts such as other fighter planes, submarines and island-based war weapons. one of the joys in this game is the bonus stage wherein the main player just have to shoot the opponent planes without them attacking. but the most rewarding of all is when you hit the main target in the island which will end you the stage in victory.

2) Evey kid of the 80's will never fail to recognize this game. Contra is one of the most interesting games during the Family Computer era. It features two fighters carrying their weapons and each time you may get a "fresh" weapon with marks "F", "S", or "L". each time your weapon gets stronger as you move on to the next stages. And yeah, who can forget the freebie: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, A, B, A, B... for 30 lives!?

1) And who hasn't played the Mario Bros. video game? This may be the game that has the most number of versions, but among those, i really loved the Mario Bros. 3 version wherein you get to choose the path to go after finishing off a stage, Mario & Luigi were given the ability to fly, "Power P" has been sought after, visiting the "fortune teller" has always been a delightful surprise, and saving the queen has always been a major reward.

Game & Watch variety:

Unlike the Family Computer, Game & Watch is simpler. Most units consist only of a left and a right button, while some developed Game & Watch units added a few more.

5) My cousin owned this Mickey Mouse unit and while it has four buttons, its main goal, like any other Game & Watch plays, is to have the highest points possible in a game. Mickey Mouse holds a basket and catches the eggs coming from four different hens.

4) Fire aims to save fire victims from a building and transfers them thru i supposed a stretcher. amusingly, you have to bounce off the victims from the building to the ambulance to earn points. Chef on the other hand just aims to tap in the air the food using the frying pan. a tap equals a point and just like any other Game & Watch plays, it just aims to get the highest score possible in a game. Once you missed a food on the floor, you will see a cute mouse picking it up while the cat is already satisfied holding a food through a fork, and releasing it when it wants you to miss something. both of these games i find a bit silly but nonetheless, amusing.

3) Among the many games released by Game & Watch, Popeye had been dear to me. It was the first unit that my dad gave us and we were lucky enough to have owned one way back then. The popular characters Popeye, Olive Oil, and Brutus plays catch and punch in this game. For Game A, Brutus stays on one side only while Game B enables him to transfer boats where popeye endlessly catches three items from Olive: a bottle, a pineapple and a spinach can. Unusually though, Popeye never gets to use his power by eating spinach in this game. Maybe that's why it made another game version where popeye and brutus plays a punching match and this time, Popeye gets to take advantage of his power by eating his spinach.

2) Donkey Kong may be considered the "Super Mario Bros." version of Game & Watch when speaking of different versions--- it has a lot! two of my favorites among those many versions are posted above, first the flip-top orange version wherein the player needs to go to the top passing every obstacle thrown against him. "rolling stone gathers no moss." lol. basically, the player is up against the rolling stones thrown by donkey kong. the other verion, Donkey Kong Jr. is even more likeable, wherein the player gets to rescue donkey kong jr. by passing against the obstacles, getting the key and freeing the poor beast.

1) I don't know but playing Octopus has always been my dream before. I remembered swapping my Popeye with Octopus during my grade school days while waiting for my school bus to arrive. i saw the game as very challenging and maybe because i saw an octopus as a very dangerous specie during my childhood years. the goal of this game is to earn as much treasure under the sea and bring it back to the boat but before you can enjoy transferring treasure to your bag, you have to pass the dangerous tentacles of the octopus. i can somehow relate this game to Turtle Bridge too:

Life's Not Sweet Everytime

it's been a week since my last post and i have a pending tag to make, hehehe... my wifey's idol, Ms. A, tagged my blog to reveal "5 factoids you may not know about me..." when i learned i was tagged, i was like, "hmm... this one's tough." but having revealed "10 Truths And 5 Lies About Me" 3x already (that makes 30 truths and 15 lies all in all) here, here, and here, i guess these five facts should be not-so-tough after all. ok, here are Ms. A's rules for this blog tag game:

1) Once you are tagged, you have to give 5 factoids about yourself that other people may not know about you.

2) You have to acknowledge who tagged you by putting the name, alias or blogsite of the tagger on the subject of your blog, together with the title of the blog game. To illustrate, your title should appear like so..."tagged by aimeediego: 5 factoids you may not know about me blogtag game"

3) You have to enumerate 5 factoids about you that people may not know of. These could either be personal stuff, embarrasing moments in your life, weird habits, a funny pet name and so on and so forth.

4) You have to tag three other bloggers to do the same. To do this, you have to call them out in your blog and make sure they get the message by however means necessary. Suggest that you comment in their blogsite, or send them a text or email. Show them your blog and hope that they keep this rolling.

5) Once a blogger has been tagged, then he or she can no longer be tagged again

ok, so let's keep the ball rolling! here are 5 factoids you may not know about aajao:

1) his most evident birthmark is his curved thumbs, left & right, which some people find amusing, some find them "lucky" while he finds it something not to be proud of.

2) he honestly dislikes his skin complexion.

3) dreams of having a billboard ad in EDSA.

4) has learned to operate and drive a picker, and used it without a valid license.

5) while playing with a cousin in his childhood days, aajao has fallen into a sapa and was rescued by a drug addict who was having a drinking session in a nearby garage space. when aajao was took out of the water, he ws full of mud and smelled like a pozo negro.

there it goes. now i'm tagging these guys to share their 5 factoids about themselves:

gilbert
ely
jovee lark

oopss.. Ms. A, sorry i think i haven't followed rule #2 strictly. :p

the other day, Mama Aning was contacted by the same talent scout who brought us to appear in a daily talk show early this year. this time, the talent scout has a "bigger" news for my wife & i: the talk show host has suggested to her production staff to look for us and feature us in their december episode with a theme "wedding of the year" or some thing like that. all expense will be paid for by the sponsor, a popular bakeshop in the country and the taping will be in HK--- yes, that is in Hongkong. with a pocket money of 60K, my wife & i can bring with us 6 other persons to the trip. ok. sounds like a big, big fairy tale waiting to happen for real. so what's the catch? the december episode will need to have our wedding re-enacted in a Catholic church and part of the reception will feature the food offered by the sponsoring bakeshop... a viand that includes dinuguan.

so come december 2008, my wife & i will be waiting in front of the boob tube to see the couple who got the taping-feature offer. indeed, while we hope for the best things to come our way, some things in our life don't end up so sweet after all.
