rainy days are here. this is (one thing that) what Spring is all about. But of course, spring season has more to offer than just wet streets and sidewalks. most people in four-season countries look forward to a 'warmer' temperature (from the chilling winds of fall and winter) and the "springing" of flowers everywhere. welcome back to the leaves on the trees, and landscapes should be colorful & beautiful once again.

and oh yes, not to mention: Daylight Saving Time starts (again) on Sunday.

------------

this morning, i prepared the kids their breakfast since kuya butch arrived a bit late from his night duty. so, finding that we don't have a prepared meal for breakfast (as my sister left early), i grabbed a couple of hotdogs from the freezer and fried them in the pan. i always wanted to eat scorched hotdogs rather than the slightly cooked ones, until i remembered that it wasn't me who's gonna eat 'em. and so, after i served the 'burnt' hotdogs on the table, my niece & nephew commented: "eww... uncle! what happened to the hotdogs?! why are they black??" i simply said, "it's just the cooking oil in the pan. don't argue coz you're already late. eat fast and get dressed." and so they stopped arguing with me and they just ate what was served. hehehe... talk about 'uncle authority'.

Happy Birthday to my 'kinakapatid', Ms. CHADDY OCAMPO. ilang taon ka na? 'wag mong sabihing 20 dahil hindi ako maniniwala.

week-end wrap-up

Saturday
, my 2nd trip to IKEA with my sister (and her family) and karen. This time, we went to its Etobicoke (eh-TOH-bee-khow) branch and the part i liked most during that trip was our late lunch: hotdog sandwiches and iced teas costing less than 10CAD for the six of us including the kids. call that a "wise buy". hehe... then we headed to Old Navy to buy Sherilyn some birthday gifts. The rest of the afternoon was just spent at home and i was lookin forward to the...

...next day, Sunday. after a blessed performance in the morning, Rajham, Debbie, Jun & k3ng joined us for lunch at home then we headed back to church for the choir practice. late afternoon, we attended our weekly committee-prayer at Ka Susie's place then finally headed to Sherilyn's birthday party celebration. Lots of people in there and my poor BK caught head ache. i just wish i was always there to give comfort but sometimes she just had to tell me to stay away. That led us to a hearty phone conversation late night after we went home and we were talking about...

Age Gap

i have always preferred a younger partner since i started to enter this thing called "love". Looking way back, i was never committed to a girl older than me. never.

age doesn't matter, or, does it? i believe it should not. i believe it depends on how you 'live' with each other and as long as you get along with MOST of the things in life, your relationship will be strong enough to overcome ALL hindrances. and that includes age gap... and even distance.

Saturday, March 27, 2004

Thursday, i made a fruit salad at BK place and enjoyed it after a delicious pinakbet at longganisa meal (for lunch). After that, i had a nice nap (of course on the couch) and keng had (also) fallen asleep just below the couch. Kuya J was on the computer when we took our nap (so that erases ANY THOUGHTS that we were alone that time). When i woke up, it was almost 4pm and i had to get ready for the performance so i prepared to head back home, after keng and i registered her Fido number at Fido's website to be able to acquire Fido dollars which can be used as free load come June.
At night, WS performance had been another blessing. Can't help but be fond of Thursday nights as i perform my duty to Him. It feels really good...

Today, it didn't rain hard as i was expecting. Good thing coz I got to chill out with my buddies at Tim Hortons after quite some time. Conversations over a cup of hot drink has always been a pleasure for me... here or in Manila. I get to discuss a lot of things with my close buddies and it takes away your worries even for just a while.

Keng is with her gurLies as well, the kindredz. Its' Christian's birthday and they (all) are together to celebrate it. Of course, Lalaine is the first lady of the night, understandably, she is Christian's gurL. To Christian, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dude!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow and Sunday. It will be a nice weekend for sure.
goodnight, blog.

IF
Nelson Del Castillo

If you see that love shine through
Don't be afraid to show me that you care
And I will take all the doubts in you
And show you what to do
And find a way to make you feel
That I am here ready to show you the way

Refrain :
So, if you say goodbye to me
Always remember this....
that woman you really mean more to me
And if someone else would come
I (hope/wish) it would be someone who will love you more
And will take care of you
Much more than I can do

Bridge :
Dreams are there for us
Dreams are sometimes end
Don't ever think that I am just a dream

(Repeat refrain)
(Repeat bridge)
(Repeat refrain to fade)

i have always considered ABS-CBN as the best TV Station in Manila during the Mara Clara days and it was when the number one undisputed noontime show, Eat Bulaga, was still airing in their network. But that admiration ended soon when i felt that the network started to be proud and greedy that they removed ALL shows and productions that "rent" their time slots (specially during prime time) and they started producing their own shows to fill in the prime time just to "boost" the network's egoistic character.

well, before the network was the undisputed umber one TV Station, but with all their doings, they are now struggling it out with rival (and fast-catching-up) network, GMA 7.

and don't look now, but ABS-CBN has continued its mind-boggling decisions from their management, leaving everyone else suspicious of the motives behind the decisions. I'm talking about the ending of Comedy King Dolphy's sitcom in the network. Dolphy has long been an ABS-CBN talent and some recent developments are really pathetic. read on:

  • Sacking of Dolphy linked to bailout

  • Private matters

  • watched Dawn of the Dead last night with Kuya J, Rich, Learzi and of course Karen, at AMC Theater in Winston Churchill. nice "chill" with them to conclude my weekend.

Today is another cold day, highest temperature reaching minus 13 degrees and wind chill upto minus 17. if i have plans of going out, i better wrap myself up. anyway, i'm doing my laundry (at long last) after craving to wash my clothes since four days ago. The washer has been finally set free for me. sinong gustong magpalaba? libre lang! LOL.

whenever i log into the net, i listen to Manila's FM Radio Station, particularly KY Energy FM thru this link. Aww... i feel like i'm in Manila.. The disc jock, reads greetings from listeners and it reminded me that this week (and the coming days) are the happiest days for the students coz school year's ending and students are preparing for the summer vacation. Makes you want to go home to the Philippines and hang out with the barkada. oh well... life here is different. i should face life here and anyway, it is not that bad as i have previously ranted. and besides, i have established a special bond among the people here. that makes it hard for me to leave Canada. My consolation--- i now have two places to feel at home at--- Manila and Toronto.

weather is nice today, sun is up but one thing i hated was the wind chill. feels like minus 10 degrees. oh well...

late this morning, my sister's family and i drove to Hamilton and looked on house furnitures at IKEA. It was my first time to visit an IKEA place and it stirred my interest to have my own house and buy stuffs for it... haha! Well, i really liked the place and there was a bunk bed (image 1) that really caught my attention. Well, a bunk bed is like a double-deck bed but the difference which i saw was that, the lower part of it is more spatial (vertically) that it can be used for other purposes, say, a couch (image 2) Or a computer space (image 3) Or even a multi-purpose cabinet drawer (image 4)

After our IKEA "shopping", we treated the kids to Chuck E. Cheese's where we ate pizza and had fun at its amusement amenities.

In a few minutes, i'm off again to watch a movie and i'll say, this will complete my weekend.

    Happy Birthday, LA!

Today, March 20 is the special day of my dear friend, Lemuel Aquino.

Ei, dude! All I want for you is to be happy, healthy and contented with your life. I hope we can be friends forever kahit both of us are busy and sometimes walang communication.

I promise you I will always be here should you need a friend. You know that.

k8r3n registered in PinoyExchange.com (PEx) today. I'm so happy. PEx has been the core of my "online life" since i registered to it in August 2001.

PEx has taught me (more) to express my thoughts on certain subjects pertaining to humanity. It has also taught me to respect other people's points of view, and through it, i learned some things i haven't known before. It even came to my life that I was getting "updated" on things thru PEx. But, if there is one thing i truly treasure for being a PExer*, it is the friendship i gained by participating in this Pinoy forum discussions. I have found a home in cyber space and even i didn't imagine that online life can be realized--- in a pleasant reality.

    The Love of God

The lesson imparted to the congregation today was very inspirational. Life hasn't been easy as the days pass by, but when life is beset by troubles and worries, it is always heart-stirring to know that there is a God whom you can call upon and the Lord Jesus Christ who is always ready to intercede your prayers to God.

In Matthew 6:25, the Lord assures us to leave our worries behind, about the material things in this world. as quoted:

"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?"

The next verse makes one think further:

"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (v.26)

Sometimes, we are overcome by our weaknesses as humans, but it is God who will strengthen us by bestowing upon us His blessings out of love. All we need to do is to put our trust in Him, have faith and abide by His will.

" So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?' or "What shall we drink?' or "What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (v.28-34, NKJV)

God has spoken through His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and His words shall not perish...

    Sunday, March 14, 2004

late afternoon, my ate, kuya, my nephew, my niece and i went to downtown toronto to visit Ana. then we pigged out at Cafe Demetre Glacerie Patisserie for ice cream crepes and waffles and sundaes too, then food hopped to its neighboring shish kebob house, Astoria in Danforth, and tried their lamb and chicken specialty with potatoes and rice. I'm full. *burp*

    [she said 'it' subconsciously... 10:08PM]

    contemplating...

i was up until about 3:45 in the morning from last night's activities. upon logging into the net, i took time reviewing my blog from its beginning. it has been a year... one, speeding year. makes me ponder (at a perfect solemn time) about what i have been doing since i started documenting my everyday life once again.
reviewing my "antiquity" section brought smile, and at the same time made me think how people would "see" and come to know me through reading my write ups. i swear, "if i haven't been with myself for the past 27 years, i would not know who really jon is."

then there is friendster. testimonials of how people "know" me. i can't stop friendstering til i find my "closest friends" in high school and college, who, i believe i can still get in touch with some day, and who knows more of the real me. i don't know how other people see me. i know i have changed a lot. i wasn't the "jon" i used to be. and sometimes, i just enjoy "finding myself" in solitude. alone. in silence... pondering. that's the real me.

[lots of quotation marks. read between the lines]

when you hear these names, what comes first in your mind?

    - Triple A
    - Pambihira
    - Kap
    - Kidlat
    - Wow Dick
    - Mr. Palengke
    - Datu

no wait, wait, wait... Pinoy Wrestling hasn't been revived and still, the likes of the Bakal Boys, Smokey Mountain Brothers, Max Buwaya and Sultan Bato remains to be a classic. Now, what are these names all about? Hold on to your seats... they are simply the nicknames of some of the official senatorial candidates for the May 2004 Philippine Election. i can't imagine writing in the official ballot: KIDLAT Yasay, MR. PALENGKE Roxas, WOW DICK Gordon!

    sheesh... talk about circus clowns.

after MELANIE-ISM comes this new persona who will make your face smile (or frown) upon hearing (or should i say, reading) his responses to sets of questions by two media people. Sad to note, he is running for the presidential slot for the Philippines in May 2004. We all hope that the COMELEC will disqualify him as soon as possible.

    On the ECONOMY:
I will change the Philippine currency to the 'dollar' so that we will be more competitive in the global arena. Countries like Korea and China are now using the dollar and we must follow suit. When we do this, one Philippine Dollar will be equivalent to one US Dollar.

i'm as lazy as this cat...

and i'm as sleepy as this dog (notice that he's in a couch)...

oh well... can't take a nap coz i'm doing my laundry. hehe... got no more clothes to wear.

anyway, i got a good conversation with my consultant yesterday and things are getting "brighter" for my plans for the next few months. hopefully, i'll get an immediate reply from the CG so i could push through with whatever plans i have. i've been thinking too much of my status for quite some time now. i need a break out of it. good thing, people from here help me to stay away from my worries. i have never been so thankful for having them in my life. i mean, people from here in Mississauga.

    Tuesday, March 09, 2004

when i was small, i enjoyed singing "It's A Small World After All", not thinking what it really means. Now, the phrase is being used to connote an acquaintance from the old days and the old times, then you suddenly come across with the person. just yesterday, i met a schoolmate of mine in high school, who used to be a batch higher than me and was the (former) boyfriend of my classmate. its amazing that we never talked way back then but yesterday, we were like long lost brothers. oh well... life.

    ------------

busy days, busy days.... can't wait 'til Thursday. missin' *sumone*

    happy birthday, Kuya JP!

yesterday, we arranged a surprise "bridal shower" party-gathering for our good friend Charmaine, who is scheduled to fly to Manila today and get prepared for her upcoming wedding next month. lots of people were present at Kuya Chito & Jen's place where the gathering was held. my good buddies and i, together with the "married ones" (Jun & Rajham) were talking about wedding stuffs. OMGosh! i can't wait for mine! oopss... *hides form violent comments*

to charmaine, bon voyage and (advanced) best wishes!

    ------------

Finally, I have watched the controversial Mel Gibson film, The Passion of the Christ last Friday. I don't see why there should be fuss all over its presentation. its a good production from Mel. Maybe, Mel was simply too clever to stand on his belief that the Jews were the ones responsible for Christ's conviction, as a part of the "marketing/advertising" promotion. oh well... my favorite part of the film was when Jesus fell from carrying his cross and Mary ran towards him, then Jesus say something like, "Mother... see i will make things new." well, i really don't recall the exact dialogues but the "mother & child" scene was heart-warming. aww...

its foggy outside, as i accompany my nephew and niece to the bus stop, i see gloomy skies and a cold atmosphere. weather.ca forecasts a rainy Friday and we might also experience thunderstorms at the latter part of the day. anyway, as i stare at the pine trees, one place popped out of my mind: Baguio City.

    hooked this from tin28's blog.

    hahahahaha!!!!

my clock reads 10:52PM. as the day comes to its end, i can't help but recall what i've been through for the day.

i can say that if ever there is a day for me that can be considered as the most annoying, it is probably today. It started with a very annoying long distance call from my mom, who, incidentally offered me with what she thought might be a very pleasing surprise for me. and i was dumbfounded! aaargghhh... just the thought of it annoys me once again so i better leave it at that.

second, i was in the bus and one teen boy gets in. from the front door where he entered the bus, you can't help but notice his very slacky, low-waist pants. i have nothing against his sense of fashion but he creates a very annoying view whenever he pulls his pants up. its like, he chose to wear it just to pull it up every five seconds. sheesh...

then third, these three grade nine (girl) students who were sitting at the back of the bus talks to each other like there's no tomorrow. as if they have rented the whole bus that their voices can be heard by everyone. then they were singing O Come All Ye Faithful" when the lenten season has started! and here's one of their (overheard) conversation:

girl 1: hey, did you see him?
girl 2: oh yah, like i passed by their locker room
girl 3: and really? whut happened?
girl 2: oh i glanced upon him, an ooohhh!
    girl 1: what? (getting excited)
girl 2: he has such nice abs. you should see him without a shirt on!
    girl 1: woah!! and...?
girl 2: and he noticed me looking, he took a glance on me. i swear it was like... oohhh... his looks went down to my spine.
girls 1&3: oh yaahh?!?! really??? giggle... giggle... giggle....

    My reward for the day

was being at karen's place for lunch and nap time. hehehe... i do love the couch, keng! my back says... "jon, sleep on the couch, sleep on the couch..." and i was like, "oh yeah, couch here i come!"
hahaha!! after we ate the delicious tuna that i cooked for lunch, karen and i watched the not-so-freaky Exorcist III, while i was in the couch, and i swear, i fell asleep. it was the nicest lunch-nap treat ever, keng! thanks for giving joy to my annoying day. hehehe...

2 days before the Holy Supper.

    Happy 1st Birthday, 03.03.03 stories!

I NEED A GOOD COLOR COMBINATION FOR MY BLOG (MARCH) TEMPLATE. HELP!!

just finished washing my toga and some of my shirts. laundry's done. and i have been glued to the internet for almost 6 hours now. intermittent use though coz i am also baby sitting my niece while i do my laundry and prepare lunch and snacks for the kids as well. boy! couldn't wait to baby sit my *own* kids. hehe...

hmm.. rache has been telling me to go out with the girls some time. i still haven't give in to the request and maybe i'm not yet ready to go out with the four of them (plus some guys perhaps). i don't know. i may not seem so anti-social but it just comes out naturally out of nowhere when "need arises." howell...

i started an MSN messenger account and i was very hesitant to even have one until keng's YM was uninstalled in their PC. i am not so much delighted to chat online that's why i only made a YM account when i needed to talk to my sister in 2002 when they migrated here in Canada. I never even regularly log in to YM. usually, whenever i do, i just check who's on line in my list and then log out right away. i prefer a more lengthy and "juicy" conversation which can be found in forums. discussions on various topics has taught me to know and respect other people's view about things in life. one great forum website ---> PinoyExchange.com

the sidewalks on the streets have begun to show up once again as the piled up snow continously melt everyday. birds began chirping on the trees, squirrels out on the streets again, and drainages are continously making dripping sounds as the water flows down the manholes from the melted ice. soon, we will see the leaves on the trees again, and flowers springing up everywhere. technically, spring starts in March 20.

    i survived winter!

pagkagising ko kanina, inaantok pa ako. sabi ko, pag-uwi ko sa bahay, matutulog ulit ako. pero ngayong nandito na ko sa bahay, hindi na ako inaantok.

magandang araw na lang po sa inyong lahat!

i'm free for the day! good. i get to stay here and probably i'll just wash my toga and be with my niece and nephew for the day. i hope keng could come over after her work. i have bought two DVD movies that we can watch for the afternoon. oh well...

since i was in Manila, i have been amused watching talk shows. The likes of Mel & Jay, Dong Puno LIVE, SIS or Kris & Korina (yeah, even these early morning talk shows), Oprah Winfrey... and among others. When i got here in Canada, one of the talk shows i liked watching is the Maury Show. This show offers a variety of topics, most of the time about paternity tests, and relationship topics. As i watched the episode this morning, it caught my interest. its about 8 year old kids cursing, smoking, stealing, beating up their siblings and name-calling their mothers. Maury offers these kids a "rehabilitation" program where they can change for the better. Had you watch their videos, how they behave, you can just imagine how they became to be like that. tsk, tsk...

OMG! I missed posting yesterday when the day only comes once every four years. Yesterday, February 29 was my cousin Angelica's birthday. Yes, this extraordinary day comes only during leap years like this year, 2004.
oh well, still yesterday, we gave our choir mentor, Ka Esther, a surprise birthday treat after our general practice. Actually, today is her birthday and she turns _5. hehe..

Its the first day of March! It's the start of our devotional prayer for the upcoming Holy Supper. The chapel is undergoing renovation and the seats this morning were dusty. Ka Malou Dabu had to wipe the seats in each row. We were looking for rugs to help her but there was none so she had to wipe all of them by herself. awww... but actually, there was a sister who was helping her. oh well..
This month also marks the first year anniversary of this blog. It's been a year since i have been doing this thing.
Today is a brand new week. hmmm... i see rain and thunderstorm in the weather network report. aarghh... and i have to go out this afternoon. howell... c'est la vie.

    Good day everyone!
