Randy "Macho Man" Savage 1952-2011

Hulk Hogan was the most favorite the time i started watching the World Wrestling Federation (now known as the World Wrestling Entertainment). But unlike the many who then idolized Hogan, i was more impressed with a much exciting wrestler... an athlete who literally "flies" in the ring, more fast moving than the hulk, and had more impressing stunts than the crowds favorite. I'm talking about the "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

 

i just learned that my favorite professional wrestler died in a vehicular accident. It's a sad news to the wrestling industry and to his fans.

i had a blog entry about the Macho Man (and the glory days of wrestling) here. i just wanted to post this as i pay my tribute to the wrestler who thrilled many wrestling fans during the height of world wrestling (federation) entertainment.

and this one match was one of the highlights of his career, against Andre the Giant, as he tries to defend his championship belt. but yeah, the match didn't finish as Jake Roberts interfered during the match. classic wrestling script it was...

The Glory Years of World Wrestling

my cousin Bernie and i have been World Wrestling Federation (WWF) fanatics in its early years (yeah we were kids back then) and i can say that i'm thankful for having been a witness to the glory years of the World Wrestling Federation which later on sucked and became World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE.

by the time i began watching WWF, it was the height of the legendary Hulk Hogan & Andre The Giants rivalry. Their match was highlighted in Wrestlemania III and since then, i got glued watching all other matches. Since the regular WWF was being aired over Channel 13 that time every Wednesdays at like, 11pm, my cousin & i began the habit of renting videos of the big events of WWF. good. not only do i spare myself from staying up so late, i also get to watch better matches than just a display of "Superstars of Wrestling" having matches with amateur wrestlers. I get to see on rented videos big events such as Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Royal Rumble, and the Survivor Series. And while Hogan was supposed to be the most "loved" wrestler way back then, i liked seeing the Macho Man Randy Savage more. his wrestling "skills" are more exciting than the usual Hogan-invincibility-mode during crunch time. it's almost a script-ender when you see Hogan wrestle while the macho man will keep you guessing if he's gonna win or defeated or cheated against other wrestling superstar while he flies everywhere in the ring. his favorite spot is on top of the ropes and his flying elbow drop seals all of his victories against an opponent. I have seen how the macho man climbed up in his career from the time Ms. Elizabeth(+) managed her, his rivalry with the Honky Tonk Man, the making of the "Megapowers" (a tag team with hogan), rivalry with the "Megabucks" (a tag team of the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase & Andre The Giant), his winning of the WWF world title belt, the unmaking of the Megapowers, the separation of Macho Man with Elizabeth, the handling of the new manager Sensational Sherry, and until his reunion with Ms. Elizabeth. It was all a classic! I just haven't checked out the video stores wherein they pay tribute to the Macho Man.

fast forward to the current WWE, while wrestling stunts these days are more daring than way back, it's really hard to appreciate what the WWE has become. while we all know that wrestling is scripted, the WWF superstars back then are better in terms of giving their audience the entertainment. of course it may only be my two cents worth.
