an unlucky monday

Following my previous post, i was referring to an officemate who has become dear to me and to my colleagues as well. She's been one of the pioneers of the company and last Saturday, i have heard (wishing it's just a rumor) that the owners are planning to replace her. As to how this is going to be done remains something to be seen.

I felt uneasy over the weekend and planned on how to deal with the rumor. Not that I believe in rumors but simply emphatizing with my colleague pushed me to be concerned about it. Knowing how "the bosses" manipulate their own company, I didn't want unfairness to prevail over someone who seems helpless, unknowing of his/her current plight with the management. For sure, I wouldn't want the same thing happening to me.

So early Monday morning upon arrival in the office, I messaged her in MSN, telling her that i feel something not good seems to be happening in the office. I really didn't tell it was about the rumor i was told about so I asked her how she's doing with the company and all her other job applications to other companies. She was asking me what I think would be happening and I insisted i didn't know. "It's just that o feel something not good is bound to happen in here," was my statement.

After lunch (late lunch due to our weekly meeting in the morning), my co-CS was looking for her new mobile phone with a SMART SIM on. Last place she remembered putting it was in her bag, contrary to my other officemates testimony that it was last found on the table unoccupied by either of us. We all thought somebody's just fooling around and while everyone was busy looking for it, i took the initiative to continue on with our work since it was cut-off time for the purchase orders to be processed. We tried calling her number and it was out of reach. Just then we all realized it was serious--- the mobile phone was snatched by someone we have no idea about. We told our GM about what happened and he had all of us checked by the guard on duty. Late afternoon, i was told by one officemate that my colleague who lost her phone included me in one of her suspects who grabbed her phone. Funny, this is the first time i was seriously considered as a suspect in theft. I just laughed it out and told my officemate that it was her right to name her suspects, and that she was already preoccupied with many things that moment. And besides, the victim doesn't know me well as my other officemates do. I just continued on with my work since she is not in the best condition to do her tasks for the day anymore.

Around 6pm, the customer who will purchase 4 cases of Premiere products arrived and i jokingly told him that 6pm is too late for lunch (coz he promised to pick-up his order in our office by lunch time). I turned him over to our finance department for payment while i get his goods at the stock room. After everything was served, I called it a day!

The following day, Tuesday, was probably the most silent day in our office history. Our GM's wife, who manages ALL our finances confirmed that the Managers Check issued by the customer yesterday was an altered check. It was fake. The check amounts up to Php140K+ and we were all shattered by what happened. I came tracing down all the contacts left to us by the fraudulent customer but to no avail. After discussing with the GM, he decided to just "charge it to experience" but still, we felt it could have not happened. There are simply too many loopholes with the transaction and i know i am a part of it. Everyone is, actually but the burden of guilt lies with our Finance manager who received the check payment. I felt so irritated that i wanted to finish the day right then and there.

With all the events that has happened in ONE DAY, i recalled what i have said in MSN early Monday morning. And it also led to the revelation of the rumor to the concerned individual. I simply felt bad for that past two days. I kept on asking my colleagues what is happening in our office... nobody can tell, nobody knows. I'm not superstitious but if there is a day i would believe in bad luck, it was definitely last Monday.

it's now Thursday! I took a day off from work and i'm scheduled to take Marky around the metropolis. As to where we're going, bahala na!

hello, world!

it's nice to be back here. just me and my office keyboard. we're only up to 1pm today and i'm just waiting for Camille to get off from work at three. then i'd take her home. She isn't feeling well since Thursday night and i was asking her to take a good rest at home but she insisted on reporting for work. oh well.. i'd take her safely home today and wish her to get well soonest.

it's been a while since i clicked on the "create" icon of this particular blog. i'm able to update my two other pages but this page seems to be the most "awaited" one to be updated coz this blog particularly tlaks about my life's stories and updates. this page opens up my life to its readers. when i started this "online diary", i've thought many times if i should ever give the link even to my close friends. but then it has become more public after its three years of existence. i have come to know other people thru the blogger world, some give good comments, some contented to become stalkers, some are eager to see who nonoy is in the "real" world.

to those who personally know me, some may wonder how i could get so serious sometimes when i gather my thoughts and pour it out on this page. blogging has become one of my favorite hobbies for some reasons:

1. i like pondering on my life a lot
2. i am amused to look back how things went since many months back
3. i get to communicate to people who i can not simply communicate face-to-face with
4. i get to vent/release my innermost frustrations and thoughts on how things are going on around me
5. people get to know who i am
6. long lost friends may know what's going on with me lately and how things have gone since we parted our ways

Good bye, Old Self

I get to receive a general first impression from new acquaintances: boastful and snob. While the latter may be partly true, i have learned to work on that trait years after my college. i have become lesser of it, but not totally out of being one. It's just that, i don't feel like being a Mr. Congeniality around people. i'm not fond of small talk with not-so-close friends either, much more, an acquaintance. i prefer good conversation with my small circle of friends or else, i'll just be on the sideline keeping myself quiet.

My girl pals regard me as a sweet and thoughtful person. well, it's at least what i know from them. i get to be so close with them that a person not in our common group may even suspect us as lovers. aside from my numerous girl pals, i've got a girl best friend. well, she considers me one. i used to go out with them individually, conversing with them while sipping warm cups of coffee or chocolate, or even accompany each other in watching movies. But the best part of being with them is that they always ask me the male point of view on things. this leads them to open up to me more about their personal stories or problems. through this, they get very close to me. it is the Jon whom they know.

I'm not saying i have changed but things ought to have its limitations. recently, i've made what i consider the worst sweet talk i ever deed to a lady friend. it's the way i used to talk to my other lady friends and for me it's just that and nothing beyond it. but unfortunately, it's not how all people see it. i'd like to admit it's my fault but i was just being my old self. it doesn't mean anything about being a traitor to anyone, much more to the one who owns my heart. it's simply stupid on my part and i felt sorry for it. It's just that, i will miss my old self and i bet my friends will miss "Jon" too. well, as much as it has been repeated many times, the saying goes: "Change is the only permanent thing in this world." And this change should be for the better.

Once a friend, always a friend

Have you ever experienced making a new friend, winning him/her your trust, opening up to him/her about your "life", then suddenly you found out that you have just been used? it sucks, huh? But then you realize, with all that has happend, the trust you gave, the conversation you shared, the moments that you were together, the ideals you debated with or agreed upon, are all worth keeping the friendship anyway. in addition to it, the feeling of belongingness to one big family. And i again quote: "Once a friend, always a friend."

2006 PEx Congo Grille EB tonight

I am excited to reunite with old PEx pals, but at the same time nervous to feel like a newbie on this. After a long time of not going to these big EB's... i'm seeing them again, tonight.

weekend, yey!

office hours, rather, week is almost done. a few minutes left and it's a loooooong weekend! for those who are interested to know why this long weekend is happening, well here's a brief info: August 19 is Manuel L. Quezon Day and our office happens to be situated in the busy Quezon City so it's a non-working holiday in the city. August 21, which is Monday, is Ninoy Aquino Day and was declared a non-working holiday since 2004. now, Camille and i are pushing through our planned trip to my dad's place in Pampanga tomorrow. Yey!

wth??? i was watching my favorite morning show this morning while preparing for work when they featured this event: The 1st Subic Bay Mardi Gras Celebration. i was like... "huh???" well, i was asking myself, what are we getting/inheriting/gaining if we duplicate this celebration that originated from New Orleans? Can't these organizers just promote more of our own culture instead? Lots to learn in the beautiful Filipino culture and heritage.

i have called my sister's home number this morning and i was able to talk to my cousin, Cris, who is visiting there for about a week. she's with my niece and nephews and i think she's the designated babysitter for until my mom arrives there. i was very happy to hear my niece and nephew again... Ria seems to be missing me a lot by the way she sounded over the phone *sniff*... i told her i have a new girl and she was like: "awww... is she nice?" geez.. i was awed with her question. my niece can now converse with me like that. not that she's already mature for those kinds of conversation but the fact that she commented/asked about her, i really feel they've grown up. and i miss them a lot... *double-sniff*

btw, i'd like to say thank you, cousin Cris for taking care of my pamangkins while their parents are busy with their respective jobs. kuya j0n will get back to you for that. ;)

long weekend :)

all smiles! :)

hmm... lemme see... tonight, i'm scheduled to take the Milan family to Moonwalk, Parañaque. Their flight to TO is scheduled tomorrow morning so i guess their vacation here was all good, except that they haven't been with Ayah that much since the latter has just started with her first job when they arrived here in Manila. But anyway, they got to be together for some time and i believe they got a blast going to places and having themselves pampered at the beauty salon and other body massage parlors--- where it is so expensive in Canada. today, the boss(es) are out so there is so less pressure right now in the office. but it doesn't mean that i have to neglect my work (just like now, i am having the time to update this blog). well, i know my responsibilities and it isn't so much harm if i update a little, is it? :p

tomorrow, church and work. hope to update my passbook at my bank in Ortigas. i haven't had it updated in months.. Friday, full load at work, i suppose. KADIWA visitation in the evening, and CWS class. Saturday, perform early morning, moms supposed departure to Toronto, i should be bringing the van to Pampanga by daytime to have it checked (again). Saturday & Sunday, except for church activities, i still don't have a sure plan on what to do but i'm reserving these days for my dads homecoming. Or, if moms flight will be re-scheduled to next weekend, we'll probably clean-up the house and have the interior re-arranged. i would love that and have been itching to just do that. i told my mom that when she leaves, i'll put away all eye-sore-things inside the house. clean up, clean up, clean up!

i would need a hand on this, any volunteers? free lunch and an overnight stay is offered. hehehe... hmm... seriously, i'm considering to do a total (or semi-total) interior-change for the house. i have neglected our house for so long, that i might even be sharing my room with a snake already. :p

Monday, Camille & i should be going to MOA. Or if the van will be done by then, i'll get back to Pampanga with Camille to claim it back. If not, we'll be going to Divisoria to look for some... ahhmm... affordable "stuffs". :D

so far... that is my upcoming long weekend. activities are subject to change though but i'd like that schedule followed.

aug12 inner mind stories...

i haven't had so much time blogging these past few days, it's either i only have time to do short browses, or update my xanga which is more of a cut-and-paste entry from my email. anyway, a lot of thoughts have been going in my mind and that's why i miss my wireless journal. thru the WJ, you can do instant updates when it actually happened, or when the thought comes to your mind at that very instant. one liner or a couple more, it sure was the most up-to-date journal that i had, online.

- - - - - - - - -

i think about my future days so much. sometimes it's good, but sometimes it scares me. i'm thinking way ahead unlike those times when i can not even project myself in three months time. now, i have a lot of things to look forward to, and prepare myself for those things.

mom is supposed to be leaving next Saturday for Toronto. but Ate B hasn't given her any updates about her ticket.

i'm planning to take Markydoo out for a stroll, and lotsa catching-up stories about what has happened since i left Sauga. we still don't have a date set for it. pro'ly next week.

- - - - - - - - -

sometimes, i think how lucky i am having my parents, and at the same time how lucky i am having them as my parents. no, they are't perfect and they don't live in one home. but they have no shortcomings for us in terms of our needs... from infancy to who my sister and i have become today. they are one of the best parents i have known in this world. they have flaws, yes, but their being a "parent" to their children covers all those flaws. even if we have to bear with their own problems sometimes.
oftentimes, i think how parents should treat their children when they grow up. should they get back what they have invested for them? or should they just be at a distance, happy enough to see how they raised their children?
should their children carry the burden of the family because the parents didn't strive hard enough to give the whole family a better living? or should the parent learn how to give their children the happiness they weren't able to achieve, and be satisfied with their accomplishment in raising their kids to who they are right now?

the children are God's gifts to parents. the parents should learn to accept it the way it should be accepted. as Spiderman says "with greater power comes greater responsibility." the children musn't suffer. when they become parents, it's their turn to bear all the hardships in life just to give everything for their children, and their own family.
