yesterday was not one of those friday the 13th urban legends but all misfortunes must have come to me that day! and to think, i was anticipating that February 27th 2009 will be the lightest cut-off day in terms of work load. well, so much for "the lightest cut-off day" . . .
first, i was rushing in the office to run an errand for the convention, and at the same time get the overdue additional mobile unit for the company at the mobile network company where i used to work. fine with me since the convention place and the business center of the mobile company is just under one building. i borrowed one of the company cars in which the key was handed over to me. after moving a few feet away from where it's parked, i felt something. it's either the flooring was bad or one of the tires was flat. it's the latter! and wow, upon seeing it, i just couldn't believe the car was "taken care of" that way by one area manager. (it was surrendered to the office actually yesterday as the person i'm referring to has resigned and was interviewed by our Admin also yesterday). well, if that really is taking care of office properties. so i just grabbed my van key and used my personal vehicle going to Holiday Inn. good thing, kuya Jun was there to take care of the car i left at the parking area and just told him to take the keys back to our admin office.
i was glad to meet two of my colleagues on the registration table and waited for the perfect timing to approach the GM to have the papers signed (as they need to be signed). i've waited. waited. and waited. i decided to drop by the mobile company business center first and get the mobile unit but surprise! what was promised to be released last Thursday wasn't (still) available by Friday! so i left the business center and promised myself not to transact business with that mobile company again.
lunch time came (and i'm beginning to get hungry), i got the chance to talk to our GM and presented the documents that needed to be signed. after asking me a few queries about the payment of the orders, no documents were signed! i was told to wait for the deposit slips in order to process the transactions. wow. i wanted the orders to be processed early but to no avail. oh well. what am i supposed to do anyway? so i decided to go back to the office. and besides, my packed lunch was waiting for me in the office pantry.
before going back to the parking area, i decided to use the washroom of the hotel. yes, not the mall but the hotel! (ok, here comes the R-18 part... if you are below the legal age and may find the following post offensive, kindly skip to the next paragraph) i was alone in the washroom when i entered and decided to use the middle (of five) urinals. an old man entered and weird as it may seem, he used the second urinal on my left. my eye sight on the side tells me the old man was staring at me. freaky, i thought, so i leaned over closer to the urinal and slightly face towards my right. i finished urinating and zipped my pants, headed to the sink and washed my hand. the old man followed. my side vision again told me he was smiling at me. i had goosebumps but i still didn't mind him. at the same time, i was trying to recall if he's one of those distributors from the province whom i have met during the first day of convention but i'm pretty sure they won't be acting that way. when i was about to leave, he reached out and pinched my stomach. only then did i ask, "yes?" the old man just smiled and murmured a few words i didn't understand and then gesturing at my front. i moved away his hand from me and hurriedly walked out of the washroom. stupid dirty old man! he freaked me out.
so i hurriedly went down to the parking area and rode my van to get back to the office. its way past my lunch time. after a couple of clicks, the van wouldn't start! after a few more tries, i was starting to sweat but still it didn't wanna start so it left me no choice but to take the bus back to the office. i told myself i'll be attending to the van after i get done with my office work, which at that time was piling up! i needed to walk over the footbridge in Citibank under the fierce heat of the sun and walk as fast as i can. upon reaching our building, i was somehow relieved but when i was about to press the elevator button, it was temporary closed for maintenance! so i had to take the stairs up to the fourth floor! wow.
i immediately unpacked my lunch and decided to ask our new utility boy to buy me a small bottle of PEPSI (500mL yata yun) to somehow relieve all the stress i got the whole morning. i instructed him what to buy, where to buy and how much it costs. when he came back from the store, he was bringing a 1.5-Liter bottle and the brand says: COKE! nagkautang pa ko sa kanya ng 7 pesos dahil nag-abono sya! "what the heck is happening this day," i asked myself. my officemates were entertained by my misfortunes as i told them one by one what has happened to me since i encountered that flat tire!
my Friday consolation was courtesy of brother-in-law jayson, he took care of the van and brought it safely to our place. so i need not worry about it anymore. good thing because i later on realized that i wasn't able to leave the office early as planned to attend to the van--- i left the office at almost 8PM!
misfortunes ended when i got home to my wifey. she always make my life happy! and speaking of being with wifey, i need to take a shower now coz we'll be having a date at Bonifacio High Street! ciao! ;)

end of month, TGIF!
whew! February this year only has 28 days and it seemed a long month. this may be the most feel-good cut-off day in our company for the last 12 months. today's the 2nd (and last) day of our first ever Distributors Convention and i'm glad to have been part of it. I've met the distributors presidents and owners, and some of the people i talk to over the phone whenever we transact purchase orders. i didn't expect myself rounding each table and have a chat with these people like i'm one of the area managers who directly handle them. but then it came into me that i've been in the company since it started some four years ago so i guess that makes me one of the sought-after persons from the office. i enjoy being out of the box some time, and this time was one of them. after finishing the tasks that my work partner, jenny, and i must do, we went back to the office to finish some work and then head back to meet the people in the convention and join them for dinner--- at Cav Wine Shop - Café. the place is awesome! for a couple of hours, i felt i was rich. food are great! and the wines must also be! i have listed the food served during our buffet dinner and here they are: angus beef short ribs with cannelini beans, sole fillet with lemon caper butter, 48-hour pork belly, stuffed chicken ballotine with foie gras sauce, asian seafood noodles, curried crab and corn salad. when you plan to visit the place, you may order any of the unfamiliar-sounding dishes mentioned above. they all taste good! and yes, i skipped rice! woohoo!!! their dessert was equally good... i was looking for its name but i didn't find any around its serving plate. anyway, it's somewhat like an ice cream and fresh strawberries on the sides. fresh strawberry juice was also served in a wine-shot glass. over-all, it's an overwhelming dinner experience. and i got to mingle more with the distributors from the areas i handle. now, even if i won't dine in Cav very soon (as Ms. A would put it: "for obvious reasons"), i promised to take wifey to the place and enjoy being with her in one of our Saturday dates.
TGIF!

"celebrating" EDSA Day
23 years ago, Manila has gained the respect of the world by displaying a peaceful revolution against a government which most people had shown much disliking. 15 years after, there could have been a repeat, but then another one--- turning out into violence has decreased the "power" of this act. others even thought it has become a mockery for the whole country.
personally, i admire and consider only one TRUE people power for my country. and i'm proud to have been a living witness to its happening. as early as my young mind then can recall, every Filipino was proud to be one after peacefully gaining what is due to them--- democracy! after regaining democracy in February 1986, the Philippines has gone a long way. whether good or bad, i'm sure we all learn from our experiences. i'd like to see a progressive country in the future. may the EDSA Revolution inspire every Filipino to continue to strive hard in attaining a better life for every fellow Filipino and live a life that we all deserve! May the road to the EDSA Revolutions silver year help us realize that a generation ahead of us has fought hard for us to enjoy a free life! i remember my grade school teacher saying: "freedom is not doing what you want to do, but doing what you ought to do." may we find the true meaning of democracy. may we live a truly democratic country. may the spirit of the February 1986 EDSA Revolution live!
- - - - - - - - - - - -
i'm not against the celebration/commemoration/observance of EDSA Day, and authorities may close a part of EDSA as they wish, but whoever neglected their assignment in studying the effect of traffic rerouting should be hanged in one of the flyovers in front of the EDSA Shrine! This is the first time i saw public utility buses treading the stretch of E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue (Libis) which signboards display trips going to UE Letre, Monumento, Fairview... i don't know where they started re-routing but clogging the already clogged avenue made the traffic in that part of Quezon City from worse to worst:

well... yeah. onli in da pilipins!

the hubby & wifey saturday date
i wasn't in my tip-top shape last Saturday morning but i promised wifey it'd be our date that day. so after resting it out for the whole morning, i took her to SM Megamall even if she insisted that i just take more rest or if i am too stubborn to make my promise happen, we just go to the nearest mall from our place. but no. i'd love to take her to the mall where she used to train as a Customer Service Supervisor. and yes, we get to see many things in there and not just the usual stores that we round whenever we go to the mall. in short, we made the date worthwhile. we both felt it seems like ages since we last hung out at Megamall, walking from bldg. A to B, going from the bottom to the top floor... well, we paid some of our bills (PLDT & HSBC) then picked up a few items from the supermarket - few, like, it didn't reach 1,600 pesos - our limit. we can now join The Price Is Right--- we didn't go over, yey! then we had dinner at Sbarro (talk about an expensive date but hey, it's all worth the spending!) and finally went to the movie house to watch He's Just Not That Into You. cool movie if you're into those light, romantic-comedy type of films. we were supposed to watch the other movie Confessions of a Shopaholic but was glad anyway that we watched the other movie. when the trailers were playing, i got interested in one local film and one foreign film: Sundo & Knowing. It's surprising to note that the latter must be an old film that hasn't been shown here in Manila yet. here are their trailers:

it's Monday again. a new week. and as i say, time flies. i wish we can get more of those dates we used to have... even when the baby is around.

"(koreana) uh-huh" "(Filipina) oh please, take me there, take me to Baguio, please please please..." sa isip-isip ko, sino kaya ang tagarito sa Pilipinas sa tatlong ito? teka, bumawi naman ang kababayan natin at buong pagmamalaki naman niyang tinanong: "(Filipina) have you been to Cebu?" "(Koreana at Koreano) no..." "(Filipina) well you should go there. it's just like Manila but it's cleaner there. it's very beautiful!" "(Koreana) and where is that... chocolate.. chips place..?"

looking forward
new week. days are brisk walking again. don't look now but next thing you know, first quarter of the year is already gone. feeling the heat of the weather already tells you that summer is approaching. but then again, weather becomes weird so by May, it might be raining already. pfft.
wifey is scheduled to have a congenital anatomy scan today and thanks to her mom, wifey always has a company whenever she has a scheduled check up with the doctor. of course i'd love to accompany her but too many absences at work won't be such a great idea especially that sources of income become a scarce these days. i was thinking of taking a part time 7pm to 11pm job but hasn't made up my mind yet. perhaps, the need isn't that very bad after all. but still, extra income is welcome. as i've said before, if ever i'd have a part time job, i'd love to have something which i can manage my own time coz i'm already chained to that regular 9-6 / 5 days a week job. i only know of one thing: buying & selling. not my forte, although i've tried that a few times way back when i was younger. maybe there are other sources of extra income out there.
i'm looking forward to this week, first my wifeys congenital anatomy scan in which the gender of the baby may already be determined, second, our choir practice in the bigger venue where we will hold our holy supper on March, third, our short sweet life guesting later at 5, and fourth, i'm still expecting the call from the staff of the game show we've auditioned a week back. they should be calling any day this week.
for the meantime, i have to bear a PC-less workplace. need to work on the preparation of our distributors conference and i have until tomorrow to canvass a good deal of ID strap. friends only say one place where i can purchase it: RECTO. i want to be a part of the distributors conference on the first day. we should be meeting the presidents and owners of the distributors nationwide and being the most senior among the staffs in the office, i should be able to meet them. and that's a demend to the bosses. LOL! well, for one, being on duty at the Holiday Inn isn't bad once in a while and oh, did i mention about the FREE FOOD? hehehe... i really think my career isn't that bad. maybe i'm just getting tired of doing the same stuff for almost four years now. that's why i even accept messengerial jobs from time to time just to deviate from the monotony of my job tasks each day.
oh well, i need to prepare for work. i still have to take wifey to my in-laws place for their doctor appointment. ciao!

look who's got flowers last Saturday:
i really don't give gifts on occasions so i guess i was just amused that there were plenty of flowers to choose from last Friday. as wifey said i gave her flowers ONLY ONCE since we became boyfriend-girlfriend and that was during her birthday in 2006! eh. i thought she loved food more than flowers so i really never gave her that even before we got married. the next flowers she had after that 2006 birthday was august 2008 when we got married. and it was provided by the flower arranger not by me. LOL. ok so before flowers were bargained last weekend, i asked her how the girls really feel when given a flower. she said she can't explain but the flattery isn't ordinary. so i said, ok. so there. we don't celebrate valentines day and we didn't wear red when we had a date last saturday. oh yeah. we had a date last saturday--- at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. wifey & i both enjoyed rounding the hospital as we took a glance at where she will deliver our first baby, God-willing. d:)

how SWEET it is to be loved by you! :)
last night, wifey and i had our taping for The Sweet Life episode which will be aired on Monday, February 16th on Q Channel 11 at 5 in the afternoon. our stint will be shorter this time compared to our exposure last year. i know not everyone is being given this kind of guesting opportunities but sometimes, i'm thinking of screening each offer and not saying yes right away to these interviews. for one, while it is an honor to be seen on national TV, i feel that it will be a greater honor if you will be interviewed about something within your field of expertise. it's like being invited to talk in a forum where you will be the resource person--- you will not just talk about something out of your field just for the sake of having someone on board. but nonetheless, the talk last night was better. wifey & i were able to express the real story beyond the on-cam love proposal that happened a year ago. i did like our segment as the production showed the former guesting before we were re-introduced on the set for the interview and the Q & A portion was more speedy. (i honestly think that the hosts were already tired by that time--- we were the last on their scheduled tapings for the day) it's far different from the previous episode. i'm eager to see the introduction part and the last part of the interview--- the last part when wifey & i get to say our unscripted messages for each other. setting the cameras aside, i feel lucky to have been loved (by) and to be loving my one and only wife. hinding-hindi ko sya ipagpapalit kahit kanino. :)
another thing i was happy about the taping last night was my chance to have a photo shot with one of my (all-time) favorite local singers. i only have three of them on the list: Ogie Alcasid, Jose Mari Chan & Dingdong Avanzado. While Ogie & the rest of the Bubble Gang were also in oe of the networks studios for their taping last night, it was the singer who made the song about calling your loved one by using those old three-25-centavo-coin public phones popular--- "Sige na ale, papalit ng barya... sige na please naman ale, miss na miss ko na sya.. ah-hah-hah ah-hah-hah... tatlong beinte singko lang ang aking kailangan upang makausap ka kahit sandali lang..."
on the other hand, here is a sneak preview (photo) of the people you will see on The Sweet Life episode on Monday, February 16th:
Ms. Lucy obviously looks tired. and so are we. the hosts have been taping episodes as early as 6pm i guess (we arrived in the station at 7, our call time was 8 pm) and people were flocking the studio due to the guesting of Richard-KC love team. wifey & i were supposed to be taped on the set next but a celebrity guest for a different episode (as told by one of the staffs) reacted on the scheduled taping and insisted to be on the set first for some reasons. oh well, showbiz, they are. so wifey & i patiently waited until before 12 midnight to be taped and get done finally. a couple of good things that lessen our unfortunate plight during the taping were (1)the visit of good friend ederic at the studio; and, (2) we didn't follow the talent scouts suggestion that we should be in GMA by 4 in the afternoon. when i heard the latter, i was like "HUH?!?!! the researcher told me to be there by 8! so what are we supposed to do for four hours?!" and we sure are glad we did NOT get there by 4 in the afternoon!
anyway, i'm still more excited about the game show we're hoping to become a part of. but if we fail in the audition, as i always say, c'est la vie. better luck next time, i guess.

TATLONG BEINTE SINGKO
(dingdong avanzado)
Mahal kita mahal kita
Wala ng iba Wala ng iba wooh
Mahal kita mahal kita
Mahal kita mahal kita mahal kita
Wala ng iba Wala ng iba Wala ng iba wooh
Mahal kita mahal kita mahal kita
Wala ng iba Wala ng iba Wala ng iba wooh

career and 'rakets'
a brand new week. i'm starting off with a rainy cloudy Monday. wifey & i should be on our way to puerto princesa today but it seems that there is another plan in store for us. workwise, i'm not pretty sure what will be the scenario in the office later as the ranting area managers will be present in the head office. i was able to talk with our GM last Friday just before i logged out and we were talking about the career shift i was asking about last December 31st. talk about being busy in the office, we were able to talk about it just last Friday and it's been over a month. well, anyway, at least i was 'heard'.
on another note, my mother-in-law, wifey & i were able to meet my cousins, Marie & Burn, last Saturday on our goal to make it to a tv networks game show. most of my regular blog readers should know this already and i'd say that the audition was a very nice experience. video cameras always take lead during auditions. it's like applying as a commercial model and all you have to do is to project yourself in front of the camera. in other words, it's all about VTR. but this time, your whole family is in focus. we've met other aspiring contestants and had a nice chit chat on the waiting area as we all anticipate for our numbers to be called. i am excited about this especially when mom asked us when we will appear in that game show as they can follow the episodes there in Canada. it's like, yay! well, having experienced lining up for hours to reach the audition room is already an overwhelming experience for us, but having been called and scheduled for the real game is another story. at this moment, we all are just hoping.
now we can cross our fingers......
later on tonight, wifey & i will be on a taping for a tv show for a 'second part' of our story together. this time, we'll be flashing back to our real love story and recall the times before we became husband & wife. hmmm... isn't that sweet?

take-off month
i didn't imagine that everything seems to be coming this month but nonetheless, i'm looking forward to these things even before the previous year expired. i'd like to believe that this month is gonna be the take-off month for me and my new family. first, wifey & baby magat are doing better each day, taking away my worries for the first trimester of wifeys pregnancy. now, the mother feels better and is always looking for something to eat, in which case, the baby eats with her. good bye, throwing up! the mother claims that the baby moves a lot. now isn't that a good sign? thinking that i'll be a father soon, i just can say, wow!
our puerto princesa roundtrip tickets will go to waste next week, unless somebody comes in and expresses his/her intent to get the tickets from us, at a very, very, bargain price. wifey & i originally purchased the domestic air tickets at 2,900 pesos (so imagine its price when bargained), including baggage, for a roundtrip ticket for two to Palawan. we got that promo fare last October 2008, a couple of weeks before wifeys pregnancy was revealed to us both. and since her current condition will not allow us to explore on the supposed trip, we decided not to go anymore as we will only be spending money on a trip we will not be able to maximize. departure date shall be on Monday, February 9, return flight on February 11 Wednesday. anyone reading this before the said dates, and are still interested to grab this very low-fare trip to Puerto Princesa (Palawan) for two, holler me back ASAP! I'm checking this blog everyday and we still have two full days to transact business from date of this blog post.
on another note, wifey and i will be doing some business with a TV network this weekend until hopefully next week. details should be updated here on my blog after everything is done. for the meantime, i'm still thinking of a good extra income racket. uhmm... legal racket of course, and favorably, something that will enable me to handle my own time.

Hinaing Laban Sa "Pananamantala"

2009 month number 2
another weekend is wrapping-up and it's Monday once again. wow. new workweek. whew. it's papa dengs birthday tomorrow and we're planning to surprise him with a gift he will truly appreciate. but before that, i just wanna blog about the late birthday bash of mommy last Saturday where we joined my wifeys relatives (father side) for lunch at Mommys Manila residence. traffic was terrible! our van could have overheated due to traffic and suns heat but fortunately we reached our destination with traffic as the only hassle.
Mommy is the mother of papa johnny and i always see her on that same spot (near the fridge) in the dining table whenever we come to their house on occasions. she joyfully looks on her family, those who come by and go, picking up food for their plates and enjoying every viand served on the table. we usually come there on december holidays while the most recent occasion we attended was her birthday. we brought her a yummy cake from Goldilocks (could have been Red Ribbon but budget says we choose the former) but too much heat melted some of its icing :( anyhoo, i loved the puchero served that day and i just had a few slice of embutido. then wifey and i took a walk to the nearest convenience store to buy Cornetto. some dessert, hehe. i needed to walk a few blocks to withdraw money since my wallet was zero balance in cash. then when we came back to the house, wifey ate macaroni-spaghetti. she even took home some but i ate them all later on. hahaha. back to mommys house... before we left, we handed the relatives our "thank you token" in attendance to our overdue wedding--- a copy of the August 2008 edition of Marikina Times. here's a photo gallery i snatched from my wifeys multiply site:

o di ba.... astiiig!!! ;)
after leaving mommys house, we had a refreshing halo-halo in the neighborhood of uphill street then headed home to arrange the room upstairs since "the king" was scheduled to visit us home. it's been like, a month? well, dad stayed until after lunch time today and it made our Sunday extraordinary.
have to doze off now...
